As a brutal nor'easter slams the east coast, the American Red Cross is there to help. Volunteers from the local chapter have been on the ground since Hurricane Sandy devastated the coast. And now they are in place to help families pick up the pieces while they brace for another hit from mother nature.
American Red Cross spokesperson Michelle Davison says sending volunteers to the northeast brings the act of service full circle for the area.
"This is the kind a thing that we experience all the time and when we need help they are the ones to come to our aid, so for us it was really important for us to turn around and make sure that we can go up there and help them," said Davison. Volunteers are expected to work for at least two weeks. Here is a quick list of some of the services the Red Cross has already provided to Hurricane Sandy victims. To date the agency has helped people in 10 states, plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. They have served more than 1 million meals and snacks and have provided more than seventeen thousand health services and emotional services. They have also handed out more than sixty thousand relief items. But they still need help.
