There is good news for boaters wanting to use the Red River's public boat launches in Shreveport-Bossier: They are scheduled to reopen for the Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26.

Crews have started removing the silt that has built up since the launches were closed in early March due to the high level of the river.

Once the silt is carted off, they will inspect the docks, make any repairs and then reopen the launches.

The Bossier launch along the Teague Parkway could open as early as next week. The other public launch is at Stoner Avenue in Shreveport.

Last year, the launches were closed just before July 4 and didn't reopen until after Labor Day because of the high river level.
