Quake concerns
TIMPSON, Tx -

Residents in Timpson, Texas were still cleaning up Friday afternoon, after a 4.3 magnitude earthquake shook their town early Thursday morning. And many of them say the quake also rattled their sense of security.

"I was scared to death, I was actually screaming," said resident, Rhona Mackey. "There was a big tremble, shaking everything in my house."

Mackey says of the few things that didn't fall over during the quake, her most prized is a china set given to her by her late mother, which is on display in her dining room. She says the quake destroyed more than some items in her home, it took her peace of mind too.

Mackey said, "It definitely has put a lot of fear in me. I'm putting away things that I thought I could display like the china set and we're trying to get earthquake insurance."

Mackey is not alone. Insurance agents in Timpson say they've received numerous calls about earthquake insurance and have been going out to homes to give quotes. They say the additional coverage can cost an extra few hundred dollars a year but, say many agencies aren't even offering the policy because of the recent earthquake activity.

"A lot of people experienced a lot of damage," said insurance agent, Dustin Norris. "It shook people up real good. Some companies have put a stop on insuring earthquakes just becase it's a high risk."

Residents say the earthquake has also given them more inquisitive minds. They say they're learning more about quakes -- how they happen, and how to be safe when one occurs -- in the event another comes around. It seems the few seconds of shock the earthquake brought, will remain on these residents' minds for some time to come.

"It made such an impact and put fear in people," said Mackey. "It makes you realize that we're in a position we didn't even dream we could be in. It's just going to take a while to get through this."
