SHREVEPORT, La. -

The day after Christmas is expected to be a busy day for retailers as stores will fill up once again with shoppers looking to return unwanted gifts.

The after Christmas sales draw many bargain hunters in, but there's also the long line at customer service full of people with returns.

Every store has a different return policy but most retailers suggest making sure you have the original receipt, if possible.

The length of time you have to return an item, however, varies from store to store.

"Normally it's seven days for store credit because we're a local boutique because inventory turnover is really fast, really high," says Sally Marshall, Assistant Manager at Vertigo Clothing in Shreveport.

Keep in mind that if all you have is a gift receipt (or no receipt at all), you're most likely only going to get store credit, usually in the form of a store gift card.

Before you even step inside, experts say the most important piece of information to have is the store's return policy.

This can usually be found on the receipt or the company's website.
