Robinson Film Center hits record year and weekend attendance
Popular 2012 films include Bernie and Moonrise Kingdom
Robinson Film Center celebrated its best year yet in 2012 before breaking attendance records the third weekend in 2013.
2012's attendance numbers were about 15% higher than average. Nationwide, that number grew to only a 6% increase.
"You know they keep on saying that the theaters are going to suffer because of all these different formats and we're just not seeing that," says RFC Executive Director Alexandyr Kent. "We're seeing more and more people wanting to come out and join the crowd."
Organizers attribute the success in part to popular programming. 2012 saw hits with Bernie, the story of an East Texas murder, as well as Moonrise Kingdom.
This weekend continued the success with Oscar-nominated for Best Film Silver Linings Playbook alongside Hitchcock and its inspiration 1960 horror film Psycho.
Officials with Robinson Film Center also attribute part of the success to Abby Singer's Bistro and special events like one-off screenings and summer camps for kids.
