SHREVEPORT, La. -

The Shreveport Fire Department believes an apartment fire late Monday was intentionally set.

Crews from Fires Station #9 were dispatched at 9:56 p.m. Monday to 7210 Bernstein Street for a reported fire at the King Manor Apartments. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from three apartments. The blaze eventually vented through the roof.

Fire crews conducted searches and ensured all eight apartments in the building unit were clear. A second alarm was dispatched at 10:02 p.m. to assist in extinguishing the blaze.

The fire was brought under control at 10:31 p.m.

The fire started in a vacant apartment with no utilities turned on. Fire investigators suspect arson.

"We do know it was intentionally set," said SFD Chief Safety Officer Scott Wolverton. "The apartment was unoccupied, did not have utilities going to it. Right now there is a very active investigation going on to find out who set this fire."
