Firefighters are known for their community service, but they're stepping up the department's initiative. SFD's Central Station has adopted the Volunteers of America's veterans' home. Sunday, they held their first barbecue for the vets. Chief Craig Mulford says he and his crew are helping vets to thank them for their sacrifices and to remember fellow firefighters currently overseas. SFD plans to treat the veterans on a quarterly basis. Mulford says $1,500 was raised by his employees to fund the dinner.
