No charges will be filed against a Shreveport police officer involved in the December, 2011 shooting of a suspect he had stopped for questioning.Caddo Parish District Attorney Charles Scott said today Officer Bryan Lauzon has been cleared in the fatal shooting of Michael Gilyard following a thorough investigation into the incident. “All the evidence clearly shows no wrongdoing in the actions of Officer Lauzon, either during the initial stop of Michael Gilyard or the subsequent altercation which resulted in the shooting,” Scott said. Results of the investigation showed Gilyard was carrying a concealed handgun. Gilyard was also carrying drugs and a large sum of cash at the time he was stopped by Officer Lauzon.Gilyard began fighting the officer for the handgun until he was disarmed and he then began to fight with the officer for control of the officer’s weapon.Investigators found 16.8 grams of marijuana, 3.8 grams of crack cocaine packaged for individual sale, over $5,000 in cash and a .45 caliber handgun in Gilyard’s clothing,” Scott said. “A criminal conviction for the possession of the firearm alone would have resulted in a minimum of 10 years in prison for Gilyard.”
