A Shreveport teenager is in the hospital after getting shot in the stomach. Police say it may have been an accidental shooting.

The shooting happened outside a house in the 2500 block of Lindholm Street around 11:30pm Monday.

Shreveport Detective Tom Oster says the 14-year-old went to LSU HSC in "very critical condition."

Oster described the scene, "We got here, [the boy was] up on [the] front porch, he's shot, pistol laying on the ground next to him." Oster said it was obvious the wound had not come from the pistol near the boy. "There's a shell casing there that also told us it was a much bigger weapon."

Officers say an 18-year-old man was in the house, who claimed to be a friend of the shooting victim's. The 18-year-old gave consent to let police search inside. Oster says, "During a search of the residence we found a [second] weapon that's probably going to be the weapon that shot the young man." The second gun was an assault rifle.

Police are still investigating, but they believe it was an accidental shooting. There was no word early Tuesday morning on the 14-year-old's condition.

Police are also trying to figure out who lived at the home on Lindholm Street. The house did not have working electricity, but the 18-year-old claimed to live there with an older brother.
