Natchitoches, LA -

A single vehicle crash took the life of a Chestnut woman early Tuesday morning.

Troopers responded to the crash around 6:35 a.m. on LA Hwy 153 just south of LA Hwy 155. Alberta L. Conlay, 67, of Chestnut Louisiana was driving a 1999 school bus northbound on LA Hwy 153 when she lost control. The bus left the roadway, collided with several trees and a fence and then traveled down an embankment.

Conlay was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities suspect a medical condition caused the crash.

There were no children on the school bus at the time of the crash.

Routine toxicology tests are pending and the crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. We ask you to take one second to “buckle up!”

Troop E Troopers have investigated 58 fatal crashes in 2012, resulting in 63 fatalities.
