The shooting happened shortly after 9 a.m. at Central Park Apartments.

Sheriff's deputies said the two men, who were neighbors at the two-story building, started arguing over a flower pot on the front porch. Why it escalated is not known, sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick said, but one went to his apartment, got a gun and shot the other man, who had followed him.

Riley Thomas, 65, was shot twice in the abdomen. He was taken to the hospital in Vivian and then airlifted to LSU Hospital in Shreveport for surgery.

Robert Lee Richardson, 69, was booked in Caddo Correctional Center on charges of attempted manslaughter.
