Shreveport Fire Department to Recruit Future Heroes
SFD Teams Up with Boy Scouts of America to Mentor Local Youth. Local youth will soon get an opportunity to ride along with local firemen! It's all a part of the Fire and Emergency Explorer Program. The Shreveport Fire Department is teaming up with the Boy Scouts of America to offer an exciting career development and mentoring program that provides young men and women the opportunity to learn about possible career choices within the department. Explorers will become acquainted with fire and emergency crews and procedures, both in classroom and field environments, including actual "hands-on" field experience.
Recruiters have already begun visiting various Caddo Parish high schools to gain student interest. Parents and students are invited to attend The Explorer First Nighter Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Fire Training Academy at 6440 Greenwood Road. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in being a recruit is encouraged to attend the meeting.
Volunteers from the Shreveport Fire Department and Boy Scout Professionals will formally announce this initiative Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Central Fire Station located at 263 North Common. The news conference will be held at 10:30 a.m.
