Shreveport Sales Tax
The 0.25% sales tax is expected to generate more than $10,000,000 next year and it's dedicated to fire and police services.
Shreveport City Council Chairman, Sam Jenkins said that " we absolutely need the money to try to supplement the salaries of our police and fire personnel as well as to get needed equipment."When more than 60% of Shreveport voters go to the polls in November to vote on congressional and presidential races, the sales tax renewal will not be on the ballot.
Instead, the city is waiting until a December election.
The Caddo Registrar of voters office is expecting around 66% voter turnout in the November election, while the December election is expected to bring out less than 10% of eligible voters in Shreveport.
An election in the City of Shreveport will cost almost $160,000. If there are no other races in that December election, Shreveport would be responsible for as much as $70,000 of that and the state will cover the rest.
