Gannett Co., the largest U.S. newspaper publisher, is cutting 21 jobs at The Times of Shreveport and 14 at The Town Talk of Alexandria.

The Times said the cuts include eight positions that were open and will not be filled. All of the newspaper's departments, including the newsroom, were affected by the layoffs. Those who lost their jobs will receive one week of pay for every year of employment, up to a maximum of 26 weeks, the newspaper said.

The Town Talk didn't specify which jobs were eliminated. The newspaper said affected employees will receive severance packages based on length of employment.

Gannett previously announced plans to reduce its companywide work force by about 10 percent. Gannett has five papers in Louisiana.
