Shreveport, LA (KTBS) -

The City of Shreveport is romancing the sidewalk this Valentine's Day.

Dozens of city employees took a love yourself walk downtown during their lunch hours.

It's part of a new program called Get Fit that promotes awareness of good health, wellness and fitness.

This was the debut for the two-mile walk, but the city hopes to continue to get fit with future excercise, like cycling and yoga.

City employees said they had a blast getting out and about Thursday.

"I went to the gym this morning and walked two miles on the treadmill. Now we're out here walking another two miles and it seems really easy after getting up to do it this morning. It's nice to be able to do it out here in the sunshinem" said employee Mark Crawford.

Organizers hope the new program will reduce illness and lower the cost of employee benefits in the long-run.
