A Shreveport native is competing to be the biggest giver, with a little help from Oprah Winfrey!
Carlana Stone, 39, is a paraplegic who is currently on "Oprah's Big Give," an ABC reality show where contestants compete to see who can give be the biggest giver to those in need.
Carlana says the show is just one more example of how disabled people can still live life to the fullest!
When Carlana got a call from Oprah saying she was chosen to be one of ten contestants she was ecstatic, but actually meeting the TV queen turned her to tears.
"From out of nowhere Oprah walks up and I just bust out in tears and I'm a big time crier and she's like, 'Honey don't cry, don't cry,'" she said.
An accident in high school left Carlana in a wheelchair and in the late 1980's she sought help from doctors in the Soviet Union.
But over the years, Carlana hasn't let her disability stop her from overachieving, even on national TV.
"On this show, there's really a unique opportunity to have the primary focus, not on my disability , but I was on a level playing field across the board," she said.
Carlana was voted off the show on Sunday, March 16. She says the show, while challenging, has taught that giving is one of the greatest rewards in life.
"I've learned through this show that when you give people a reason to give they jump at the opportunity and it's a beautiful thing to witness," she said.
