Parking meters in downtown Shreveport are going to have a coin-less option.

All downtown meters are being fitted with card readers, and pre-paid parking cards go on sale next week.

After inserting the parking card into a slot on the meter, it will display how much money is available on the card. The card will add time to the meter in 25-cent increments; when the amount of desired meter time is reached, you remove the card.

If any time is left when you return to your vehicle, you can retrieve the amount of unused time by re-inserting the card.

Parking cards go on sale Monday at the Shrevepark parking office in the CapitalOne bank building at Travis and Edwards streets.

The meters will still accept coins, too.
