Human remains found in a shallow grave in Nevada County, Ark., on Monday are believed to be those of a Hope man who disappeared after his mother's murder nearly two years ago. The case could turn out to be a double murder.

Hope police believe the skeletal remains are those of Jon Michael Fincher, 38.

Police had issued a first-degree murder warrant for Jon Fincher, charging him with killing his mother, 58-year-old Donna Fincher. But authorities said the body found Monday appears to be the victim of a homicide.

The person had been shot in the top of the head, apparently by someone standing over him, Nevada County Sheriff Bobby Carlton said.

Police said Fincher's wallet had been found earlier near a pond on the property. The skeleton was discovered by loggers on Monday morning.

The remains have sent to the state crime lab in Little Rock for identification and autopsy.
