A senior officer at Fort Bragg, N.C., was shot dead by an enlisted soldier who then killed himself this afternoon, according to an Army official.
The enlisted soldier, said to be an E-4, allegedly shot the officer and then turned the gun on himself.
A second soldier was injured by a ricocheting bullet, the official said.
Fort Bragg officials confirmed law enforcement responded to the shooting at 3:30 p.m. near 18th Airborne Corps headquarters but declined to make further comment, pending the notification of the victims’ family members.
Post officials were redirecting traffic around the historic section of Fort Bragg this afternoon and advising people to stay clear of the area.
