A Caddo Parish sheriff's deputy pulled a speeding truck over this morning, asked the driver what the hurry was and saw the reason: The passenger had lost part of his foot in a drilling accident.

The victim was being driven from a drilling location in Red River Parish to a Shreveport hospital about 8 a.m. when a deputy stopped them at Louisiana 1 and Leonard Road. The driver was going about 100 mph, deputies said.

"She asked what the hurry was and (the driver) Said the man had cut his foot off," said sheriff's Cpl. Kenny Hester, the second deputy on the scene. "She looked over and it was a bloody pulp. She said, 'We'll get the fire district right over here.'"
