CHALMETTE (AP) -- The state attorney general's office says St. Bernard Parish government must pay the West Feliciana Parish Police Jury $15,837 for expenses incurred during the St. Rita Nursing Home trial.

The negligent homicide trial for the nursing home's owners, Sal and Rita Mangano, was moved from Chalmette to St. Francisville after the judge agreed it would be difficult to seat an unbiased jury in St. Bernard Parish.

The Manganos were acquitted in September of 35 counts each of negligent homicide and 24 counts each of cruelty to the infirm.

The charges against the Manganos stemmed from flooding that swamped their nursing home near Poydras during Hurricane Katrina.
