The commander of Louisiana State Police was in Shreveport today to inspect buildings that would be used as hurricane-evacuee shelters.

Social Services Secretary Ann Williamson accompanied State Police Col. Mike Edmondson for a tour of two hurricane shelters.

One is the old Sports Mall on Greenwood Road. The other is the former Sam's Club on Jewella Avenue.

Supplies like water, food and cots are already in place.

"I want to make sure it's suitable for people to live and we get them out of harm's way," Edmondson said.

The state would also open shelters in Bastrop and Monroe if needed.
