Two cities, two governments and now two convention centers.
Both sides of Texarkana are building complexes along I-30.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the Arkansas-side center was Thursday.
Work will soon begin on the Texarkana, Arkansas Convention Center and Holiday Inn Hotel.
The new 100,000 square foot complex will be built over 12 acres in the Crossroads Business Park.
The hotel will feature up to 150 rooms and a full-service restaurant.
City officials say the convention center has been in the planning process for several years.
Mayor Wayne Smith says the Patel family will shoulder the financial costs.
Dr. Hiren Patel says they're looking forward to a successful business venture.
"It was my family's hope and belief that this investment, will make this city home to more businesses and jobs in the future," said Patel.
Most of the risks will be taken by Patel who will own and operate the Convention Center and Hotel.
Mayor Smith says the new center will especially be needed when Interstate 49 is completed.
Dr. Patel also announced a new water park to be built with the Convention Center and Hotel.
Construction on is expected to be completed in nine months.
