Texarkana, TX -

A Texas lawmaker is throwing his support behind an amendment that would help Red River Army Depot avoid closure.

The TexAmericas' Center wants to use state and local funds to support the work being done at the depot.

Representative George Lavender of Texarkana says he supports their efforts to prevent the possible closure or realignment of Red River.

He believes the amendment will not only pass, but will benefit the entire region.

"I think we're all on the same page in Texas and we want to do what we can to keep our military installations growing and working. It's such a huge part of our economy," said Rep. Lavender.

If the bill passes, TexAmericas' will use the funds to attract new military missions, create and retain jobs at the base, and develop infrastructure projects.
