Prosecutors say an 18-year-old Fort Worth man convicted of murder for orchestrating the killing of a man over a $40 Super Bowl bet has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
A Fort Worth jury arrived at the sentence for Edward Washington III on Wednesday after convicting him Monday.
Investigators say 20-year-old Jarami Thomas was fatally shot in March 2011 in the parking lot of an Arlington convenience store.
Prosecutors say Thomas had placed a bet with Washington on the February 2011 game, played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, via Facebook. When Thomas didn't pay, Washington threatened him.
Clevin Earl Brown Jr., a friend of Washington, shot Thomas and last April was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
