Texas prison officials have enough lethal drugs to execute as many as 23 people.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice, responding to an opinion this week from the state attorney general's office ordering it to disclose its execution drug supply, says it has 46 2.5-gram vials of pentobarbital. According to Texas execution procedures, a 5-gram dose -- about 3.4 ounces -- is used during each execution in Huntsville.

The prison agency has similar supplies of two other drugs also administered to condemned inmates.

The disclosures came without further comment Friday from prison officials.
