Texas voters made their voices heard at the polls Saturday.

In Texarkana, a new mayor was elected. Steve Mayo won over Benjamin Dennis with 82-percent of the votes. Mayo commented on his victory.

"We didn't go into this expecting anything other than to win. We worked really hard and we have a lot of really good relationships out in the community and a lot people worked real hard," he said. "I'm glad to have it over with and I'm ready to get to work," Mayo added.

Mayo has represented Ward 5 on the city council since 2006.

In the Texarkana Council Ward 6 race, incumbent George Nuckolls lost to challenger Robin Court. She won with 71-percent of the votes.

"I'd like to thank the voters and the people who've supported me, I'm looking forward to getting in with this council and working to the progress of Texarkana for the future," said Nuckolls.

In Carthage, voters went against an option to sell beer and wine inside the city limits. They voted down both a proposition for premise sales and a proposition for restaurant sales.
