Preparations are under way at Independence Stadium ahead of one of the biggest college football games of the Labor Day weekend. Crews are power washing the stadium and vendors are stocking up the concessions stands.
Meanwhile, with less than a week and a half until kickoff, ticket sales are still only around half of the seating capacity. As of Tuesday morning 24,162 tickets have been sold. The stadium capacity is around 50,000.
While the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission says it's ramped up its marketing of the game, fans are doing some marketing of their own.
Louisiana Tech alumnus Chris McJunkins, who owns Cantina Laredo and Windrush Grill in Shreveport, says he hasn't seen a lot of buzz about the game. So he donated his own billboard space on Youree Drive to promote the game.
"Well it's good for everybody," McJunkins said. "Any time there's traffic in the city that's not normally in the city, it can only help everyone. So I felt like that was actually money well spent."
Fellow LA Tech grad Ross Barclay, owner of Maxwell's Market in Shreveport, donated radio ad time to promote the game.
The game is Thursday, August 30 at 6:30 p.m. That matchup will be televised by ESPN U.
