Christmas lights and decorations are great holiday traditions. However, the Electrical Safety Foundation International wants you to make safety a tradition, as well. They've teamed up with Home Depot to teach you tips on how to decorate safely. One of their top suggestions is, to prevent a fire hazard, check for damaged wires before you string those festive lights around your home and tree.
"If the lights have been stored over the years, you want to make sure there's no fraying," safety instructor Smitty Smith said. "Rats may have gotten into the storage room and gnawed on them. Also, make sure you are using lights that are UL laboratory tested."
For more tips, you can visit holidaysafety.org, or attend a safety demonstration class at the Bert Kouns Home Depot on Sunday afternoons.
