At the Fairgrounds pool in Shreveport, it's nothing new for lifeguards to find leaves and trash floating in the water. But the thing they fear the most, not just here but anywhere, is to come in and find a body.

Patrick Wesley with SPAR says so far so good, but things weren't so good Thursday night when a teenager nearly drowned after authorities say he and some friends jumped the fence for a little after-hours swim.

Wesley says when kids aren't jumping fences, they're practically tearing them apart, just so they can get inside and risk everything they have.

Fortunately, there have been no drownings in any Shreveport city pool this year.

We checked with the Shreveport Fire Department and found some interesting stats. Over the last three years, here are the numbers of drownings and near drownings in Shreveport: In 2006 there were 21, last year that number jumped to 62, and this year in Shreveport, so far only one incident, and that was the near-drowning Thursday night.
