A 16-month-old child was killed Sunday when an adult unintentionally backed over her as he was backing out of a driveway, Natchitoches police said.

Andrew Thompson, 18, of Cloutierville was leaving the Magnolia Street home of his girlfriend's grandmother Sunday afternoon when he felt a bump, police said. Thompson got out of his SUV and found his girlfriend's 16-month-old niece lying on the driveway.

The child was pronounced dead at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center.

Police said Thompson told them the last time he saw the child, she was inside the house.

No charges were filed against Thompson.

That was one of two fatality accidents in Natchitoches Parish involving pedestrians over the weekend.

A man walking on Louisiana Highway 6 was killed shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday.

State Police said Ronald Wylie, 35, of Natchitoches, was hit by a pickup driven by Joseph C. Peltier Jr., 54, of Natchitoches.

No charges were filed against the driver, troopers said.
