SHREVEPORT, La. -

The young girl who was seriously injured after a run-in with a Shreveport Police cruiser early this morning has been identified.

It happened just before 7am when investigators say 17-year veteran of the force, Sgt. Rodney Johnson, was traveling eastbound, and coming over a hill at the intersection of Stoner Ave. and Cornwell Ave., approaching Youree Drive.

That's near the Salvation Army's main office.

Officials say that's when Johnson saw 11-year-old Dyamon Williams in the middle of the street, attempting to cross the road near her bus stop.

Authorities say Sgt. Johnson did not have time to avoid Williams and hit her head-on.

She was taken to LSU Health Shreveport, where she's now listed in stable condition.

Officials say the officer was not injured and will go through a routine drug and alcohol screening as well as an interview.

SPD Sgt. Bill Goodin says dash cam video and GPS information from the cruiser will be reviewed as part of their investigation.

Officials say they'll most likely reconstruct the crash during the course of their investigation.

Victor Mainiero, spokesperson for Caddo Parish Schools, has confirmed that she is a student at Broadmoor Middle Laboratory School.
