UPDATE: Rise of the Guardians did not make the Best Animated Feature category. The nominees are Brave, Frankenweenie, ParaNorman, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, and Wreck-It Ralph.

Filmed in Louisiana, Beasts of the Southern Wild is nominated in four categories: Best Picture, Actress in a Leading Role, Directing, and Writing (Adapted Screenplay).

Nominations for the 85th Academy Awards will be announced at 7:40 Thursday, January 10 by this year's host, Seth MacFarlane, and actress Emma Stone.

Prospects look good for Shreveport native Bill Joyce and his big budget film Rise of the Guardians.

Traditionally, a good indicator for potential Oscar nominations are the awards and honors that precede it, of which Rise of the Guardians has nabbed a few.

So far, the DreamWorks flick has received nods from big name award committees. It's in the Golden Globe's "Best Animated Film" category. The movie about story-time heroes also picked up a nomination from the Producers Guild of America awards and several nominations- including "Best Animated Feature"- from the Annie Awards, which honors the best in animation.

Entertainment Weekly magazine and movie industry website indieWIRE both have Rise of the Guardians in the nominee predictions, as do many film bloggers.
