Shreveport, La. -

Last night, Shreveporter Greg Mills, a 51 year old black male, was the victim in Shreveport’s first fire fatality of the year. At 10:13 p.m., Shreveport fire crews were called to the 600 block of West 83rd Street in the Cedar Grove community. According to fire dispatch, the person reporting the fire said that someone was trapped inside.
When fire crews arrived on-scene four minutes after the call, they found the house totally engulfed in flames with heavy smoke and thick flames coming from the windows and doors on three sides of the home. The first fire was brought under control at 10:30 p.m.
At 4:43 a.m., Shreveport Fire was called back to 603 W. 83rd street because the fire apparently re-ignited causing more damage to the home.
Currently, the department is still on-scene and more information about both fires will be released upon further investigation.
Fire investigators confirmed the fire originated in the living room and that Mr. Mills was found in one of the bedrooms, but the exact cause is still unknown. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office will release their findings once a complete investigation has been conducted.
