Weather Radio Tower In Deadly Flood Area Not Working
Southwest Arkansas
Victims of the Albert Pike flood may've gotten warning of the deadly wall of water had a downed weather radio tower been replaced.
If you have a weather radio in that area, all you'll hear is static. That's because the area's weather radio tower was destroyed two years ago by Tropical Storm Ike.
A temporary tower at Mount Ida only transmits only a few miles.
The National Weather Service is responsible for the towers. They say a lease agreement has gotten in the way of a more powerful, permanent tower.
The Glenwood City Council is now turning to Arkansas' Congressional delegation for help.
