Local wildlife and fisheries officials are still baffled at how a cougar wound up in a Bossier City neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

"We think he was just roaming around possibly came out of Texas and just came up and hit the Red river and started going north.  For a cougar, several hundred miles is real easy for them," said Steve Hebert, biologist.

There were two cougar spottings in Louisiana in September -- one in Natchitoches and in Allen parish.

This isn't the first wild animal to make it's way into this Bossier neighborhood.  Three years ago and just a few blocks down, a woman spotted a black bear in a tree in her backyard.

The cougar was sent to Baton Rouge to take a look at it's health and stomach contents.  They say the cougar was about three years old.
