MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia lottery officials are working to confirm that the winning Powerball ticket worth $276.3 million belongs to eight employees of the Monongalia County tax office.
Lottery spokeswoman Libby White said the eight women were in contact with someone from the office Sunday night.
White said there is no reason to doubt there are winners, the ticket must first be validated.
Saturday's jackpot is worth nearly $95.5 million after state and federal taxes are deducted. Divided eight ways, that would be nearly $12 million apiece, White said.
This jackpot marks the seventh time a ticket sold in West Virginia has won the Powerball jackpot. It is the second largest win since December 2002, when a man won a jackpot worth nearly $315 million.
