World Spay Day

Robinson's Rescue will participate in World Spay Day, an international campaign of The Humane Society of the United States and Humane Society International, to promote the life-saving benefits of spay/neuter, when Robinson's Rescue hosts the first World Spay Day Event at its clinic at 2515 Line Avenue on today at 6 p.m.

At today's event, Robinson's Rescue will launch its first ever "Block Captain Campaign" recruiting volunteers to be captains of designated blocks. The captains will encourage neighbors to spay and neuter their pets with the goal of achieving 100% "fixed" rate for their block. Robinson's Rescue will track the volunteer's progress throughout the year.

Everett Harris, Director of Caddo Animal Services, will open the event that will feature a performance by the Boys and Girls Club of Shreveport. Animal Welfare groups, concerned citizens, volunteers and city and parish officials will also be in attendance.  

"Spay/neuter saves pets' lives while lessening the burden on animal shelters and taxpayers," said Dr. Andrea Master Everson, President and Medical Director of Robinson's Rescue. "We are inviting our citizens to volunteer their time as a 'Block Captains' because with their help we can decrease pet overpopulation one neighborhood at a time".

Since Spay Day's inception in 1995, it is conservatively estimated that participants have spayed or neutered more than one million animals. It has been a proud achievement of Spay Day participants like Robinson's Rescue and other spay/neuter programs that the number of homeless cats and dogs euthanized in the U.S. has fallen from approximately 13.5 million in 1973 to fewer than four million currently.

Robinson's Rescue works to reduce dog and cat overpopulation and euthanasia in our region by providing free and low cost spay and neutering services while maintaining high standards of medical treatment for the animals. Friday, February 15, 2013 marked Robinson's Rescue 20,000 animal alteration since opening its doors in 2008. Many of these surgeries are performed for free or half priced through the SNIPP program, thanks to financial support from the Caddo Parish Commission. Robinson's Rescue seeks to accomplish its mission by facilitating low cost spay/neuter surgeries, inter-agency involvement and humane education outreach to our community.
