A child is put in scalding hot water

A father sits behind bars after police say the man placed his 4 year old son in a tub of scalding hot water.

Carey Cortez was booked yesterday into the city jail on a charge of cruelty to a juvenile. Some teachers at the child's elementary school in Opelousas said the boy's father dropped him off, and he began screaming almost immediately. As they approached him to see what was wrong he took off his shoes and they say large blisters and deep, red burns were on his feet.

The boy's sister, who also attends the school, told a teacher that Cortez placed the boy in hot water after he wet the bed. The child suffered second-degree burns to both feet and is recovering at an area hospital.
