Each day in Kayla Tuggle's class at Elm Grove Middle School, one of the students is the assigned "greeter" -- the one who answers the door when there's a visitor.
Kayla was the greeter today. She answered a knock at the door this morning: The man was her brother, Trevor Calais, home on leave from the war in Afghanistan.
"I can't believe you're here!" the surprised 12-year-old exclaimed as she opened the door and saw her 20-year-old brother standing there in his Army fatigues.
She then introduced him to her 7th-grade classmates and he spoke briefly to them about his service.
Calais, a private who has been in Afghanistan since June, is home on two weeks' leave. He is scheduled to have another five months in Afghanistan.

Trevor, I know how proud your Mom and sister are of you! We've watched you grow up in the neighborhood- this was a wise choice you made, to go into the military. Good goin' man! We're ALL proud of you!

I know that Kayla was very excited to see Trevor at the door. When a loved one comes home the joy in your heart is so great you can hardly contain it. I am so proud of all the men and women who serve our Country in the armed forces. Thank you all and Trevor, give your family lots of Hugs while you are here. All of you need them. I could not stop hugging my son when he came home on leave. My jaws hurt from smiling just from the site of him. May God Bless and Keep you.
