Some children have a laundry list of gifts they want for Christmas. Others just want to know they are cared about. Several organizations worked together to make sure that wish came true for one local family dealing with a rare genetic illness. Daniel Norris looks like your average, happy-go-lucky 8-year-old. But Daniel and his brother, Joseph, 10, were born with a rare genetic disease. So rare in fact, their mother, Rebekah, says they're the only two children in Louisiana that have been diagnosed.
Opitz Syndrome affects the larynx, trachea, and esophagus, causing breathing problems and difficulty swallowing.
The Delta Delta Delta "Wish upon a Star Foundation" got involved and decided to give the children a very merry Christmas. The Shreveport Police Department also stepped in to help make their wish come true.
Officer Jason Brook helped Daniel pick out the perfect uniform. The boys also got a laptop with free internet for a year, a wish come true for their mother. Rebekah says it's a blessing for her children to see that people in the community haven't forgotten about them.
Daniel recently underwent surgery to expand his esophagus, in hopes of getting his feeding tube removed.
