In many ways, Gabriela Gavilanez is like so many other 14 year old girls. She likes art, playing the guitar and wants to be an attorney when she grows up.

But its where Gabby is different that's brought teasing from other children and caused her to hide her left hand from sight. Gabby was born with three of her fingers shorter and lacking joints.

Doctors at Shriner's Hospital for Children are fixing that. They performed a procedure on Gabby to lengthen her fingers. Gabby's had to endure six weeks of painful physical therapy for two hours a day.

The result, a happier child with more self esteem and the ability to function like her peers. The excitement is easy to see on Gabby's face. I'm so happy, she says.
