Facing Foreclosure? Get legitimate help

If you are facing foreclosure, be wary if someone says they can modify your mortgage or save your home.

The most common pattern is companies take large deposits up front, then do little or nothing to help homeowners. Some crooked companies have also reportedly targeted Spanish-speaking households and deliberately had them sign an English-only contract they didn't understand.

The best advice? Seek the counsel of a HUD-approved mortgage counselor. Below is a list of those approved in this area.
