Fireworks were not contained to the riverfront on Saturday night.
At 9:40 p.m., the Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched to Villa Marquis II apartments on Valley View Drive for a reported laundry room fire. Firefighters arrived at 9:44 p.m. to find smoke coming from the front door and flames visible through the window. They extinguished the fire in less than ten minutes. Officials estimate that approximately 50 percent of the building was damaged by fire, but there was no damage to any apartment buildings.
Witnesses told fire officials that two teenagers were seen entering the laundry room and tossing fireworks into a trash container. Fire investigators are looking for suspects.
There were no reported injuries.
