It's unusual for a high school football player to go without a good pre-game meal. But one Arklatex football team has missed several after losing their booster club. But thanks to some special miracle workers and high profile names there's plenty of food to go around before friday night football.
When the lights come on friday night every high school team is hungry for victory, and Woodlawn is no different.
But off the field and before the game they're hungry for something else. Woodlawn no longer has a booster club and in the past had been going without pre-game meals.
That's when workers at the Christus Schumpert school-based health center located in woodlawn high school stepped in to help out.
Workers are getting donations from area churches and businesses to help feed the team.
They've also gotten a few big names and former alumni in the game as well.
One is Terry Bradshaw. The other is Joe Ferguson. The third played football at Woodlawn, but he's known in town for his construction work, Casey Hand.
Woodlawn coach James Thurman says the school based health center's workers have been instrumental in helping the team on and off the field.
Woodlawn has 55 players and five coaches with game day food costing around $300. They and the Schumpert Health based center workers would like to thank everyone for their help.
