As the Louisiana Legislature headed toward its adjournment this week, they were dealing with serious issues -- like cuts to health care and higher education.
On Wednesday, the eve of their adjournment, the House of Representatives took a little time out for some rapping -- and they're getting ridiculed for it over the internet.
The House paused for a few minutes Wednesday afternoon to recognize singer Hurricane Chris of Shreveport.
He was introduced by state Rep. Barbara Norton of Shreveport, his godmother. After being commended by the Legislature for his musical accomplishments, Hurricane Chris spoke briefly to some of the state's leaders before the House cranked up the music and he sang from his song, "Hally Berry (She's Fine)" -- albeit a version free of the explicit lyrics and racial slurs in the main version.
The caption of the video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpEdJ_tlX2A calls it "loony looziana legislature reaches a new low."
Norton disagrees with the criticism, saying it's important to recognize the positive things done in Louisiana.
"We were stopping for just a minute saying, 'We love Louisiana; this is our home.' It wasn't like we took 30-40 minutes."

This is ridiculous! No wonder this state is so messed up. Norton is an idiot. That "rap-session" made it look like cedar grove is running our state. good lord.

The fact that they allowed rap is an embarrasment. But what can you expect from lawmakers who want to lower the education standards just to get them out on the street sooner and on the taxpayer payroll. Somebody wrote the other day they found out their child was 1 year behind when he got to TX. Feel lucky, ours was 3 years behind and this was several years ago. The longer the state goes with ZERO priority on education the worse the lawmakers will be. Remember the idiots in there will be the idiots we ran through without requiring them to read and write to graduate so they wouldn't take up space in the classroom.

Why didn't norton have the Ten Commandants read? It would have been awhole lot better, but then again that would have upset some of the other politicans in Baton Rouge. It sure would have been better than that other garbage she recommended.

I so glad Representative Norton and the rest of the legislature have fixed Louisiana's spending problems, cut my taxes and have cured the other many ills of Louisiana ( funding higher ed not being one of them). These idiots we send to Baton Rouge don't get it and never will. The leges are there to work, at least 40 hours per week or as long as the peoples business demands it. Shove the rap where the sun don't shine and conduct the peoples business, not the politicians own agenda.

Shreveport - you are an embarrassment to the State of Louisiana.
Let's get ratchet, let's get ratchet!
Seriously - WTF?
