Imagine almost losing your leg due to a staff infection. Well, for one young girl, this was a reality she faced. But thanks to a few missionaries, she will soon be able to walk again.
Agnes Samabea is your typical girl. She loves watching TV and playing games on the computer. But less than a year ago she was in Ghana, Africa with a serious staff infection on her foot.
Agnes's father left her at a prayer camp in Africa where the doctors determined the only way to cure the infection was to cut her leg off from the knee down. That's when the missionaries stepped in.
Tawana Donahoe travels to Africa each July as a missionary. And after hearing Agnes' story, she decided to help. Along with help from the other missionaries, they worked to get a visa so Agnes could travel to the United States. They took her to Shriner's Hospital in Houston.
Agnes had five surgeries in the span of a few months and she's expected to recover. Donahoe credits Shriner's Hospital for the care they've given Agnes.
Even though Agnes will eventually return to Africa, she and Donahoe are both thankful for the time they've had together.
