A man was shot and killed today in a shooting at a southwest Shreveport apartment complex during a dispute that police believe was over custody of children.
The man who did the shooting said he opened fire when the other man tried to force his way into his apartment.
The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. at Villa Marquis Apartments at Jewella and Valley View.
Police say the suspected shooter was waiting at the apartment complex with the gun when they arrived.
The man who shot was hit twice in the chest, police said. He was pronounced dead at LSU Hospital. His name had not been released this evening.
"We believe that this altercation is over custody of children," police Cpl. Bill Goodin said. "There were four children inside the residence."
Charges were not immediately filed against the man who did the shooting. He and several witnesses were being questioned by detectives.
