A recent scare involving a staph infection popped up at a Bossier City school last week.

It happened to a substitute teacher working in the special education/early childhood program at Apollo Elementary.

She was told Saturday by her doctor that she had a form of the medicine-resistant staph, but that it was treatable with antibiotics and was not the "superbug" that has proven hard to control in other parts of the country.

Bossier school officials said they immediately took action.

"The custodial staff thoroughly cleaned that room and the modular wing -- all restrooms and walls where children can put their hands and so forth," said Assistant Schools Superintendent D.C. Machen.

The substitute teacher has been treated and cleared by her doctor to return to work, school officials said.
