A would-be robbery in Shreveport today was foiled by a gun-toting store clerk -- who credits his gun and the Almighty with protecting him.
Karem Hamdan, a married father of five, was working at A-1 Quick Stop on Linwood Avenue late this morning when two men wearing masks and carrying guns walked in.
"I got scared, you know," Hamdan recalled. "Thank God, I had a gun with me."
Hamdan pulled his own gun and fired a shot into a stack of newspapers in an effort to scare the men away.
Both men left unhurt but without any loot.
"I used it and almighty God protected me first," Hamdan said of his decision to pull a gun. "When two guys come to rob any business, they either kill or take the money. You never know what they do."
No arrests had been made this afternoon.

Thank you KTBS for reporting this story. Many gun crimes are foiled because the victim is armed, but we rarely hear about it.

I know this man and i am so sorry to see that this happened. he is an honest and sweet man and my thoughts and prayers are with him. I know that he understands that he is in a drug neighborhood and when asked why he said simply because of the kids. I hope this never happenes again
